This safe, painless scan looks at your kidneys, bladder, and urinary tract to check for stones, blockages, infections, or other changes. It can help find the cause of symptoms such as frequent urination, pain, or blood in the urine, giving you answers and reassurance.
What's Included
- Check the size and appearances of both kidneys
- Check the appearances of the bladder including what the capacity of the bladder is and how much urine is left in the bladder after emptying
- Any abnormalities of the kidneys and bladder will be identified. This includes, however is not limited to: Cysts on the kidneys, Masses on the kidneys, Abnormal fluid build up within the kidneys due to obstruction (this collection of fluid is known as hydronephrosis), Kidney stones, Bladder masses, Bladder stones, Any structural abnormalities of the kidneys (these may sometimes be the cause of recurrent UTIs)
- Diagnostic scan report
Appointment Details
- Duration: 20 minute appointment time, includes the consultation and scan
- Performed by NHS trained and HCPC registered sonographers
- Same day scan results with guidance on further follow up where required
How To Prepare
- Full bladder required - please drink 1 pint of water (500 ml) at least 1 hour before the scan and do not empty bladder during this time
