An abdominal aorta ultrasound is a simple and painless scan that looks at the main blood vessel in your tummy, called the aorta. It helps check that the aorta is healthy and free from problems such as widening or blockages. The scan is quick, safe, and doesn’t use any radiation. You’ll be able to go about your day as normal, and your results will be ready straight away for your reassurance.
What’s Included
- This scan will check the abdominal portion of your aorta. The aorta is the main artery within your body and transport oxygenated blood from your heart to the different organs in your body.
- The aorta and common iliac arteries will be examined
- Checks for any aneurysms of the aorta.
- Will also check for any aortic narrowings caused by plaques known as atheromas (these are area of fatty deposits which can build up within the arteries)
- Diagnostic scan report

- Duration: 15 minute appointment time, includes the consultation and scan
- Performed by NHS trained and HCPC registered sonographers
- Same day scan results with guidance on further follow up where required
