BBC’s Warning Over Dangerous High Street Baby Scans
In an article published on 3rd November 2025, the BBC highlighted growing concerns around the standards of some high street ultrasound clinics and the potential risks these may pose to pregnant patients across the UK.
According to the report, concerns first raised by the Society of Radiographers (SoR) point to inconsistencies in training and qualifications among staff performing scans in certain private clinics. Currently, there is no legal requirement ensuring that sonographers in all private ultrasound settings hold NHS-recognised qualifications.
The BBC article detailed several cases in which pregnant women received inaccurate information or missed diagnoses, raising important questions about patient safety and the need for greater transparency in the sector.
At Safe & Sound Ultrasound Clinic, we are committed to the highest standards of care. Every scan is carried out by fully qualified, NHS-trained sonographers who are actively practising within the NHS. This ensures that each patient receives expert attention and accurate results in a professional, safe environment.
While many reputable clinics uphold similar standards, we encourage expectant parents to verify the credentials of those performing their scans. Always check that your chosen clinic clearly states that scans are conducted by fully qualified and NHS-trained sonographers – this provides the reassurance that you and your baby are receiving the best possible care.
